After more than 210,000 page views of the April 26, 2010, article ”Human-looking ETs secretly in U.S?” it seems clear that there is significant public interest in the topic of possible extraterrestrial visitation to Earth, UFOs and equally possible activities of the U.S. defense and intelligence communities regarding these subjects.

The article was about an account of a reported effort by U.S. authorities – Operation TANGO-SIERRA – to investigate a human-looking extraterrestrial who had made contact with a federal employee.

Are people who consider tales like this too gullible? Or, are they open-minded and increasingly aware of highly unusual possibilities?

The same information sources for Operation TANGO-SIERRA are reportedly also those who released information about the alleged Project SERPO. That account involved a mission that allegedly sent 12 specially-selected and highly-trained U.S. military personnel to another planet as guests of friendly extraterrestrial visitors as part of an exchange program.

When we see news about calls for more openness and disclosure about possible government activities in these areas, it also seems clear that human psychology and our preparedness to deal with such possibilities are major elements to consider.

In fact, it might be fair to say that disclosure about possible extraterrestrial visitation to Earth is directly tied to the emotional, spiritual, psychological and social readiness of the public to handle this kind of news.

MEDIA AND EDUCATION

How would we measure public preparedness? Should we conduct more surveys and public opinion polls about people’s feelings and perceptions of UFOs and ETs? How can we be sure that there would not be panic, distress, disorientation and turmoil from such disclosure?

We must also be concerned with children and youngsters who could be affected by fearful reactions. Has our educational system prepared them to handle such a situation? Even our colleges and universities do not routinely delve into these kinds of topics in classes related to science or the social sciences.

However, some higher education institutions are looking into frontier-science areas of various kinds. Conventional colleges and universities are exploring the nature of human consciousness and mysteries of space and the universe.

New innovative institutions such as the International Metaphysical University are also emerging as leaders in forward-leaning education of this kind.

Social stability and continuity in the face of disclosure must be considered. Not that things wouldn’t change – they would. But managing this change is important, especially if the situation is challenging or troubling in some ways.

Certain media platforms seem to be helping with this. TV is leading the way. Flip your channel any given night and you are likely to see a show on UFOs. Movies, too, are addressing these topics and helping audiences think about different scenarios that could be involved.

Continuing the discussion in the media about subjects like this is probably helpful.

This is being done through the hundreds or thousands of websites exploring anomalous and weird-science subjects. The longstanding number one late-night radio show in the U.S., Coast to Coast AM, has been dealing with these and other edge-science subjects for years.

Newer emerging media platforms like Open Minds Production of Tempe, Arizona, are also developing audiences.

Are these media activities contributing to public mental health problems with their coverage of UFOs and unusual topics? Or, are they helping us mentally and emotionally deal with challenging realities?

HANDLING THE TRUTH

According to some researchers, certain elements of the U.S. government have been trying to acclimate, educate and prepare us for these and other emerging situations. Using indirect and discreet methods, we may all have been slowly educated over several decades to be prepared for surprising truths.

And, maybe extraterrestrials or other unusual intelligences have also been preparing us.

Maybe we are getting closer, or even very close, to greater disclosure and understanding about what might be going on.

If so, there is also responsibility on our shoulders to make sure that the general public can handle increased information about these topics.

But limiting discussions only to UFOs and ETs might miss the larger targets.

Discoveries about quantum physics, human consciousness, multiple dimensions and other areas create a kind of synergy of fascinating forces that might change the entire way we look at life, Nature, the universe, reality and ourselves.

We don’t need to look far to open our minds about the possible realities. NASA astronauts have not only strongly hinted, but clearly stated that there are extraterrestrial and/or unusual intelligences at work. Other military personnel have also bravely stepped forward to inform their fellow Americans.

Behavioral health professionals like the late Harvard psychiatrist John Mack, M.D., showed great courage in addressing these kinds of issues.

Now, maybe it is our turn.

Maybe more disclosure will occur when a large enough segment of the public is ready to accept some unusual truths and we are socially, emotionally and psychologically prepared. When we reach that tipping point, a new phase of understanding might emerge.

And this understanding might not just come from the powers-that-be. It could arrive in the form of new awareness and perception within us.

Any newcomer to this area of interest and who enters search terms into YouTube or Google such as "UFO sightings", "Triangular UFO" or "UFO Videos" will be surprised at the large number of results provided. Interest in the phenomena of unidentified flying objects is reaching a peak as more and more sightings are made of large black triangular objects floating silently just a few dozen feet above the ground, steely discs that accelerate from a standstill to several thousand miles and hour in the blink of an eye, and a plethora of strange metallic objects and orbs shedding material. Some videos you will see on YouTube are clearly the work of bored computer whizz-kids using CGI but many are not so clear cut, and often the comments posted by the more knowledgeable viewers will help sort out the real sightings from the fakes.

Interest in the UFO phenomenon has been growing ever since the late forties when stories of strange flying objects accompanying WW2 bombers were circulated and particularly after the press picked up on the account by businessman Kenneth Arnold in 1947 of a formation of nine brightly coloured crescent shaped craft seen from his light aircraft as they flew at speeds in excess of 1200 knots. They were described by Mr. Arnold as flying like saucers skipping across water - and this gave birth to the name flying saucer.

As a result of mankind being naturally war-like and afraid of the unknown, and with Hollywood always seeking to produce more dramatic and scary films, soon flying saucers became the subject of doom-laden and mostly poorly made films presenting flying saucers as the vessels of terrifying invaders from space intending to destroy us and devour our natural resources before moving on to their next victims in a nearby solar system. Many of these films have ranked alongside the lower quality productions in the science fiction and horror film genres resulting today in any attempt at serious discussion about UFOs and extra-terrestrial life being met with sniggers, giggles and derision. So any serious research and scientific study of the UFO phenomena has been very limited in scope.

It is perhaps ironic that millions of dollars of private money and a NASA grant given to SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) results in a search of deep space for signs of intelligent life, while all the time a large piece of the ET jigsaw appears to be silently going about its business right under our noses here on Earth. SETI, perhaps understandably, distances itself from the UFO phenomena, preferring to ignore the hundreds of credible sightings of strange craft by sane and professional people. This denial of the UFO phenomenon reminds the writer of a Christmas pantomine where the lead character is shouting "what?" and "where?" and the audience is shouting "behind you!".

To accept the argument that alien visitors might just be going about their business here on Earth on a daily basis then we first have to consider the proposition of there actually being other life beyond our own little planet. The vastness of the universe is difficult for we emerging Earthlings to grasp because the numbers are simply too large to visualise. But let us try. Our own galaxy the Milky Way contains between 200 and 400 billion stars and perhaps a trillion planets. Outside our own galaxy there are billions of galaxies each containing billions of stars and trillions of planets. It is plain silly to believe, or prefer to believe, that our little planet is unique in it ability to spawn and harbour life and even if we assume that a miniscule percentage of planets have favourable conditions to life (as we know it) then there must be millions of planets on which intelligent life has developed and flourished - albeit separated by mind boggling distances. It is not within the scope of this article to develop this point further but interested readers should research the Drake Equation.

What are the chances that some of these intelligent life forms have visited us and continue to do so? Firstly, a bit of humility is required. Essentially, when it comes to the universe, its origins, its future, life-starting conditions, alternative life-starting conditions, extra-terrestrial life, and advanced ET technology, then let us be honest with ourselves, we know next to nothing. We have only come along very recently in the life of our planet and our scientific discoveries and developments have only really taken place during the last 300 years or so. What can we know of the technology and abilities of ET civilisations that have won the ability to develop scientifically over periods of thousands or even millions of years?

Sceptics say faster than light travel is not possible because Einstein's general Theory of Relativity dating from 1915 says so. They say we cannot have been visited simply because of the unimaginable distances involved and even at the theoretical limit of light speed the travelling times are immense and impractical. However Albert Einstein himself had the humility and foresight to recognise that his theory of relativity may one day be overtaken by new discoveries in physics and science and some scientists do question the validity of Einstein's theory. Just because the emerging Earthlings have not yet worked out a way to overcome Einstein's theory of relativity it does not mean that significantly more advanced civilisations did not do so long before the dinosaurs were wandering around our own planet.

Even if the speed of light is in fact the cosmic speed limit policed by the laws of physics then it is perhaps worth considering that it is not the distance that is the problem, it is actually the time taken to travel the distance. Here on Earth we relate everything back to our own time references and to our human life span. More advanced civilisations might have resolved the problem of aging, and perhaps even death itself. Their life span may extend into many hundreds of years as a result of their understanding of their own physiology and their environment. Their planet may be as large as our sun and rotate slowly with one of their days being equivalent to hundreds of ours. So their perception of time will be entirely different from our own.

Consequently a trip of say 30 of our years may well be a snip to them because their perception of time and time references are entirely different from ours. Add a bit of hibernation and a little on-board entertainment and they will be exploring our solar system in no time, to them, at all. This time reference theory does not even take into account the possibility of tricks with the space-time continuum, faster-than-light travel or inter-dimensional travel that we are many years away from comprehending.

The upshot of the above points is that we are in no position technologically to discount anything when it comes to the universe, space travel and the capabilities of life forms beyond Earth. We should have a little humility considering our embryonic sciences and keep our minds open when it comes to reported UFO sightings.

Since organizations began keeping records in the 1950s, UFO sightings have been increasing each year in America and worldwide. It is not known whether this increase in sightings is due to there being more unidentified flying objects in our skies or rather an increased technology for people to be able to report a UFO sighting. Perhaps it could be a mixture of both.

With the advent of the internet, tracking has improved since with a click of a button anyone can report a UFO online. But even more valuable is the fact that the internet has allowed tens of thousands to post stories, pictures and videos. This wealth of information provides UFO investigators and enthusiasts with the ability to research, compare and add to our knowledge database, which furthers the scientific study of UFOs.

A recent example of how technology has enabled information from different parts of the world and even different times to shed light on similarities of the UFO phenomenon can be found in comparing reports of 3 different sightings of a ring in the sky.

Fort Belvior, Virginia

The first sighting was made in 1953 at Fort Belvior, Virginia. Fifteen witnesses at a U.S. Army military facility spotted a perfectly symmetrical ring or circle in the sky, which was moving quickly. The military's explanation was that the circle was a smoke ring from an atomic bomb simulation.

Doswell, Virginia

The second ring in the sky sighting was in 2009 at King's Dominion Amusement Park in Doswell, Virginia. Same characteristics as the 1953 UFO sighting, however, this particular ring hovered in the sky above the park. The amusement park asserted that the smoke ring was caused by one of their rides; however, countless people witnessed the object and were certain it was something not of this world.

Kosovo

The third ring was sighted in 2010 in Kosovo. Authorities mostly assume this ring in the sky is also caused by some sort of smoke, and certainly that argument is very compelling. Yet again, the internet has made it possible to take 3 separate incidents and view their similarities in a way that no other generation has been able to accomplish. These rings have been sighted in multiple countries all over the world, but only in this day and age, do we have the technology to put all the pieces together.

It would be easy to accept the government's assertion that the 1953 ring was due to smoke, but the fact that multiple sightings, pictures and videos are now available that show these same type of rings are being seen all over the world in non-military locations proves that there is certainly something to investigate.

As researchers are able to document and study incoming data, we draw closer to being able to understand and hopefully one day prove just what these unidentified objects are, where they come from and answer the timeless question: do aliens exist?

The question as it was posed:

This question is not so unusual, since many of you are looking for proofs of extraterrestrial life, ghosts, spirits, and other para normal and supernatural occurrences.

In a way this is not unusual, since man has always sensed the existence of something more than that which meets the eye, so to speak. The human species sought out these non-physical, seemingly supernatural phenomenon since the era of the cave man and searched for realities that appeared to be below the perceptions of the natural man. He created his gods in his minds eye in his search for understanding There is something fascinating about mysterious things that you don't understand. You all want to believe that the earth has been visited by alien beings, and it has, but aliens did not create the Nasca Lines or the Crop Circles. For those of you who are not up to date on Crop Circles and Nasca Lines, the following are the "Wikipedia" definitions. The Crop Circles explanation speaks for itself, so I will discuss the Nasca Lines here.

The Nazca Lines: are a series of ancient geoglyphs located in the Nazca Desert of Peru. That has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The high, arid plateau stretches more than 50 mi. between the towns of Nazca and Palpa on the Pampas de Jumana. Although some local geoglyphs resemble Paracas motifs, scholars believe the Nazca Lines were created by the Nazca culture between 200 BCE and 700 CE. The hundreds of individual figures range in complexity from simple lines to stylized hummingbirds, spiders, monkeys, fish, sharks or orcas, llamas, and lizards. The lines are shallow designs made in the ground by removing the ubiquitous reddish pebbles and uncovering the whitish ground beneath. Hundreds are simple lines or geometric shapes; more than seventy are designs of animal, bird, fish or human figures. The largest figures are over 660 ft. across.

Crop Circles: In 1991, two men from Southampton, England, announced that they had conceived the idea as a prank at a pub near Winchester, Hampshire, during an evening in 1976. Inspired by the 1966 Tully Saucer Nests, Doug Bower and Dave Chorley made their crop circles using planks, rope, hats and wire as their only tools: using a four-foot-long plank attached to a rope, they easily created circles eight feet in diameter. The two men were able to make a 40-foot (12 m) circle in 15 minutes.

There is one thing that the Nasca Lines and Crop Circles have in common, they are and were made by humans not aliens visiting this planet with intent to confuse the poor ignorant savages of the times by leaving symbols that would have meaning only to those indigenous people of the Pampas. I know you would prefer if I said that they were made by aliens visiting earth in space vehicles in ancient times who were seen as gods, but such is not the case. The Nasca Lines were made by the inhabitants of the Nasca region at that time and they were far from ignorant savages. These people were not stupid by any means and their culture, although undeveloped in politics and the sciences, were to some extent, more in tune with the true potentials of the harmonious, integrated characteristics of the human species than you are today.

These peoples understood the mobility of consciousness and the connections of the outer self with the inner subjective self that could not be expressed in the physical body. Their religions were more to the point than yours today, in that they did not look to finding God outside of themselves thorough intermediaries with golden robes, holy water and promises of salvation, and may I add, with questionable motives. This understanding was shortsighted in one way because although they did rely on their pursuit of their deities through their own cognisance and understanding, sometimes those pursuits led them astray.

The Nasca people saw the stars in the skies, wondered at the comets and the movement of the planets, they endured the thunder and violent storms emanating from the heavens, the tornadoes, the hurricanes and floods and believed that these were punishments from and angry God. They also luxuriated in the warmth of the sunshine and knew that it was a gift from their God. So, they did what you still do today, they assumed that their God resided somewhere, somehow in the skies, perhaps relaxing on a cloud and so they paid homage to the unknown reality of a god who was UP.

Your evangelistic religions and other religions too numerous to mention, still today, practice raising your eyes and arms to the skies when you pray, not understanding any more than these peoples of 100 BC to 600 AD, that in a vast universe, the words up or down are meaningless, where up becomes down and sideways is everywhere and "All That Is" is infinite. In that respect, you too are primitive, and have progressed precious little since those ancient times in your pursuits of religion. God could just as well, live DOWN as UP and you could kneel and spread your arms sideways to pay homage to your God as well as stare at and raise your arms to the sky in praise.

Now, your tacit refusal to take the responsibility for your own spiritual development, in your reality does you no real long term harm, but how long are you going to languish, mired in distorted and false beliefs before you begin a search for understanding of real truths? Rhetorical question of course.

This is not an article about God, but I can't pass up an opportunity to mention one of those things that I have said again and again, at this stage of the evolution of your species, there are truths that you KNOW but you don't KNOW that you KNOW, so I will take the liberty now to remind you of one of them. God surrounds you on all sides, not just up, He touches you in the breath of the summer breeze that touches your cheek from the sides. He resides in the sand between your toes on an isolated beach down under your feet..

God smiles within the smile of a loved one, and within the adoration of your favorite pet that touches your deepest emotions from the inside. So why do you still assume that God lives on a cloud, sitting on some golden throne in heaven? Here is what you KNOW that you do not allow yourself to really know; there is no heaven as you think of it, but God, my friends, is everything that is NOT YOU, and everything that IS YOU. (This hints that all consciousness, not only human, but the consciousness of all living things, carries a touch of Divinity within its very being.

Of course, many of you are going to say, "I KNEW THAT", and indeed you did, so why are you like sheep; being led by those who perpetuate myths and legends that are worn out and highly disadvantageous to your spiritual progress.

These primitive beliefs served their purpose for the children and the natives, but you are no longer children or natives and they were never meant to be leaned on forever like some spiritualistic crutch to save you from eternal damnation. You are meant to evolve beyond children's tales and to begin to understand the true nature of God and your reality.

Now, back to the Nasca Lines. Since much powerful, natural phenomenon seemed to come from the skies, and since the Nasca peoples were very creative and had at their disposal, a wonderful natural source for creative expression in the rocks and earth of the Peruvian Pampas, they naturally came upon the idea to honor these heavenly gods by creating works of art in the earth that could be viewed from space. Since these gods were seen as powerful, they translated this powerfulness as bigness and since such powerful examples of destruction came from the mysteries of the heavens, it was only natural that they would assume that the gods resided somewhere UP in space.

So, it seemed perfectly sensible to create big, large works of art as offerings that could be seen from their gods in space. In short, the Nasca lines are images created to honor those all powerful gods and in a way, the Peruvian Pampas is their natural museum containing their work as offerings to their gods.

There is another reason that has never been mentioned. Since these indigenous peoples were not hampered with a rigid, unyielding ego consciousness as you are today, they were far better at utilizing the dream state as a launching pad for the projection of their consciousness out of the body for purposes that were quite taken for granted in those times, for they understood the co-operation of the inner and exterior abilities in equal balance of a properly tuned consciousness. In very practical terms, they did much of their work in the dream state, projecting their consciousness "out of their body" above the surrounding countryside, finding new sources of water and food and migration routes of the animals.

You do this today in your seeming "lucid dreams", but the knowledge of your nightly dream excursions has gone underground, where the Nasca peoples used this ability consciously and with much facility and satisfaction. This ability of the human personality to release its consciousness from the domination of the ego centered human body for short periods of time, is a natural attribute that you too use, but usually don't remember. Since it is normally, but not always, done from the dream state, you usually don't remember it the next day upon awakening. When you consider a friend in the dream state, you sometimes actually project your astral form to their presence, this form sometimes can be seen or felt by them, and sometimes not. Some will remember your visit in the morning, but not remember exactly how or why.

The Nascans had the ability, using the dream state and states of "altered consciousness" to project their consciousness into the heavens to great heights above the earth, and view the earth below with some discernment. They would share these dream observations with others within the tribe, comparing notes, so to speak, and making decisions and adjustments based on those observations. In that manner, they were able to appraise the progress of their massive artistic creations from an advantageous perspective and make necessary corrections when needed. They then, had the ability to appreciate their massive creations in ways you do not.

For the record, there are ancient lost ariel maps of areas of the world that still exist today that used precisely this method of "out of body projection" drawn centuries before any known method of flight existed.
